Pros

  • The free plan is a real SEO plugin rather than a demo: sitemaps, canonicals, meta robots, Open Graph, schema, redirects and on-page guidance all work on WordPress.org's 30,000 active installs without paying — so the cost of finding out whether it suits you is one afternoon
  • The AI-visibility layer is inside the free plan too, which is the practical difference from most of this category: an audit that scores answer-readiness, llms.txt and llms-full.txt generated at the site root, IndexNow and Google Indexing API submission, AI-crawler control for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended, and per-URL inspection from the All Posts screen
  • The independent record is good and reasonably deep: WordPress.org shows 4.6 from 681 ratings, G2 4.7 from 151, Capterra 4.65 from 168 and AppSumo 4.72 from 495 — 1,496 reviews you can total up yourself across four platforms
  • It runs beside the SEO plugin you already have, so trying it is not a migration: the compatibility page documents a "No Configuration" setup path that leaves the other plugin's tags and settings untouched, and the WordPress.org FAQ says the same
  • Importing is one click when you do want to move: Rank Math, Yoast, All in One SEO, SEOPress, SEO Framework, SEO Pressor and legacy plugins including HeadSpace2, Platinum SEO Pack, SEO Ultimate and Add Meta Tags, with the previous plugin's optimisations preserved — the difference between trying this and redoing a site's metadata by hand
  • The vendor declines to sell the thing it cannot prove: the homepage argues against competitors selling an apparent "ranking position" inside ChatGPT, cites SparkToro's 600-volunteer / 2,961-prompt-run finding that AI recommendation lists are unstable, and separates "verifiable visits" from "clearly-labelled estimated exposures" — unusual candour in a category where "AI rank tracking" is routinely invented
  • Support is the most consistently praised part of the product across platforms: WordPress.org reviews name individual support staff and describe problems fixed inside 90 minutes, and the pricing page lists email, Facebook and WhatsApp as channels
  • It is clear about who it is: Squirrly Limited is a UK company, registration 08198658, 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, incorporated 3 September 2012, taking payments through FastSpring since 2013 and Paddle since 2023 — and the free plan's 5 keyword researches a month are enough to test the one capability its users complain about against your own niche

Cons

  • There is no refund, in any window, for any reason, so budget the year as money you cannot get back: the Terms of Use (updated 21 October 2025) say "Cancellation does not entitle you to a refund under any circumstances" and "No Refunds" — and cancellation cannot be done by email or phone, only from the Billing page inside my.squirrly.co by completing an Exit Form. The free plan is the trial this product otherwise does not have, so use the month before you pay
  • PRO is yearly-only, and the card and the checkout disagree about what you are buying: PRO's headline price reads "per month (purchased annually)", its button opens a $239.88 yearly checkout, no monthly PRO product exists, the card describes 5 sites while the checkout is titled "PRO Yearly (7 Websites)". If you need monthly billing, the plans that offer it are Web Dev Kit ($51.20) and Business ($71.99)
  • The add-ons are recurring monthly fees and the site ladder is not monotonic: $50 a month for 300 extra keyword-research credits and $19.99 a month for 1,000 extra SERP Checker credits, both published directly under the claim "No Hidden Add-Ons, Just Honest Pricing"; and Web Dev Kit ($51.20, 10 sites) is cheaper than Business ($71.99, 7 sites). Divide sites by price before you move up
  • The free plan's ceilings are tight enough to decide the purchase for you, so "free" is a trial in substance while being a plan in name: 1 site, 1 Focus Page, 5 keyword researches and a single audit page a month. That is enough to test the keyword data and not enough to run a live site
  • Keyword data is the one complaint that repeats across six years of independent reports, and it is the thing the free plan lets you settle before you pay: in the readable record the same keyword was labelled "not hard to rank" in the Briefcase and "low ranking chance" in a fresh research run the same day, and a second keyword was given 500–1,000 searches a month where SEMrush, Google Ads' keyword planner, Wordtracker and Searchvolume.io all showed no data. Spend the 5 free researches on a keyword whose answer you already know
  • Connecting an AI assistant needs WordPress 6.9 or newer and HTTPS on your site: that feature is built on the WordPress Abilities API and WordPress only allows Application Passwords over a secure connection. The plugin itself still runs on WordPress 5.3, but on older sites the headline AI feature is simply absent

Pricing

Free

$0 per month, forever — the WordPress.org plugin

  • One site, 1 Focus Page per account, 5 AI keyword researches a month, 1 audit-suite page a month, 75 new keyword ideas, Audit Suite and SEO Live Assistant both capped at "Lite"
  • Rank tracking uses Google Search Console data, and SERP Checker credits are 0 on this tier — the vendor's own comparison table marks the Squirrly SERP engine as paid-only
  • The vendor's pitch for it is comparative rather than absolute: "You don't get all features for Holistic SEO, but you get PRO features of Rank Math and Yoast for free"
  • Marketing consent is requested at signup — the WordPress.org plugin asks for an email address to connect the cloud tools before any of them work

PRO

$19.99 per month purchased annually — the button on the pricing page opens a yearly checkout at $239.88 (7 websites), and no monthly PRO product exists at the equivalent URL

  • 5 sites, 25 Focus Pages per account (5 per site), 50 keyword researches a month, 100 audit-suite pages a month, 750 new keyword ideas, Premium Audit Suite
  • Still 0 SERP Checker credits and still Google Search Console as the rank source — the only thing the tier adds over Free is volume, not the Squirrly SERP engine
  • The card says 5 sites while the checkout its own button opens is titled "PRO Yearly (7 Websites)" — the tier description and the product being sold are not the same product
  • Billed through Paddle; the checkout added 10% tax on top with the country set to Japan ($239.88 price, $23.99 tax, $263.87 total a year)

Web Dev Kit

$51.20 per month, and this one genuinely is monthly — its button opens a monthly checkout

  • 10 sites, 70 Focus Pages per account (10 per site), 300 keyword researches a month, 300 audit-suite pages a month, 15,000 new keyword ideas, 2,000 SERP Checker credits
  • The first tier that switches the rank source from Google Search Console to the Squirrly SERP engine, and the first with co-branding, per-client credit limits and control over features per client
  • The comparison table answers "End client of Squirrly's client not allowed on Cloud App" for this tier, which is the licensing line an agency actually needs to read
  • Cheaper than Business at $71.99 while offering more sites (10 against 7) — the ladder is not monotonic

Business

$71.99 per month, confirmed monthly at the checkout Paddle renders ($71.99 price, $7.20 tax, $79.19 total with the country set to Japan)

  • 7 sites, 70 Focus Pages per account, 300 keyword researches, 300 audit-suite pages, 3,000 SERP Checker credits, Squirrly SERP engine
  • Priced $20.79 a month above a tier that covers three more sites, and the difference the table shows is 1,000 more SERP Checker credits and the Business-level training
  • The footer block beside it reads "Renews at the Same Price Billed Monthly. No Need to Commit for a Whole Year" and "NO Renewal Fees" — while the add-on price list sits directly underneath

Add-ons and upgrades

$50 / $19.99 per month, charged monthly, on top of any plan

  • $50 a month for 300 extra keyword-research credits, and $19.99 a month for 1,000 extra SERP Checker credits — both recurring monthly fees, published immediately below the claim "No Hidden Add-Ons, Just Honest Pricing"
  • Website and Focus Page limits are raised either by license stacking (buying the plan again) or by moving to a Web Dev Kit 30 / 50 plan
  • One-click import from Rank Math, Yoast, All in One SEO, SEOPress, SEO Framework, SEO Pressor and legacy plugins including HeadSpace2, Platinum SEO Pack, SEO Ultimate and Add Meta Tags — migrations preserve the previous plugin's optimisations

Who it is for

  • WordPress site owners who want to try the AI-visibility workflow — llms.txt, AI crawler control, IndexNow submission and the GEO audit — without paying, because the free plugin carries those features
  • Sites already running Yoast, Rank Math or SEOPress that want AI-answer optimisation layered on top rather than a migration, using the documented No Configuration setup
  • Agencies that need the rank source switched from Google Search Console to the vendor's own SERP engine and per-client credit control — which starts at Web Dev Kit, not PRO
  • Small business owners and bloggers who want guided, task-per-day SEO rather than a settings panel, which is what the Focus Pages and 14-day journey are built around
  • Buyers who have already decided on the annual PRO outlay and are willing to treat it as non-refundable — $239.88 for 7 websites is inexpensive per site if the workflow fits
  • Users whose priority is getting AI answer engines to cite existing pages, since the GEO audit, schema and llms.txt work on pages you already have rather than requiring new content
  • Anyone who wants to test the keyword-research accuracy against their own niche before paying, because that is the specific capability users complain about and the free plan includes 5 researches a month to check it with
